What is the difference between the 223 Wylde and 5.56?
In our previous blog posting, Scorpion Rifle Works reviewed the differences between a 223 and 5.56. This blog entry will answer another question we get often, which is, what is the difference and is it dangerous? To answer that question, yes it can be dangerous to fire a 5.56 bullet from a 223 Remington chamber
Nonetheless, we are happy to report that design manufactures have come up with the 223 Wylde rifle chamber. The link here will provide you with more information from good old Wikipedia. In this case, they explained the safety features very well.
For those of you that do not want to go find the answer, let us summarize it for you. This chamber does the following:
- enables the safe firing of the 5.56 bullet from a 223 Remington chamber
- has an identical chamber angle with that of the 5.56 chamber
- the free bore also gives a tight fit to the 223 bullets making it more accurate
