A little history, James Madison proposed the 2nd amendment to combat a tyrannical, federal government and the creation of civilian forces (Brittanica, 2022). It was ratified in 1791. 

Today, the 2nd amendment is found in our constitution and defined as a "well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
